Kan Fukumoto

At Galerie Alaux, we are delighted to welcome Kan Fukumoto as part of our distinguished selection of Masters of Art. His work—delicate yet powerful—embodies the spirit that drives our curatorial vision: technical excellence, personal expression, and a sincere dialogue with the natural world.
Kan Fukumoto was born in 1986 in Hiroshima, Japan, and earned his Master of Fine Arts from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2014. He currently lives and works in Tokyo, where his artistic practice is deeply rooted in the organic, the ephemeral, and the spiritual. His work draws on a wide range of visual references—from natural history encyclopedias and ethnic textiles to microbial forms found in soil and ocean life. Using recycled and natural materials such as handmade Japanese paper, driftwood, and organic pigments, Fukumoto creates pieces that evoke fossils, maps, or imagined archaeological fragments.
Fukumoto has participated in major exhibitions both in Japan and internationally, including the Yanbaru Art Festival in Okinawa, the 3331 Art Fair in Tokyo, and group shows in Taiwan, Singapore, and Spain. His work moves fluidly between painting, installation, and sculpture, inviting viewers to explore the boundaries between nature and art, permanence and transformation.
We invite you to experience the depth of his visual universe in our upcoming exhibition. It will be a poetic encounter with matter, time, and the quiet intensity of an artist who gently reminds us of our connection to the earth.
We look forward to welcoming you soon at Galerie Alaux.
